Sendai street scene
Monday, November 9, 2009
If you look at the tops of the buildings you can see the Disney-like rides on top of the Fujisaki Department store. For those who are living in Sendai now, in 2009, the scene here is the way it was in the early 1950s when Harry Breysacher was there and took this photograph. The city was small and being rebuilt. All this is gone now and you have to decide if the changes are good or bad.

After the war, and with the occupation still on, Disney probably seemed to be a glimse of a world they hoped to take part in.
Hi Abe,
I'm not sure. I kinda like the scene as it was in the fifties. It's nostalgic......
Best regards
Asta
How interesting--rides on the top of a building. How improbable, and rather whimsical that is.
The street is quite narrow in this photo. I wonder if it was widened? - Dave
The wires are still here.
Dave - the street is about the same size.
This is a very interesting blog, I enjoyed looking through the pictures and read some of the stories.
I hope that Jeanie (or a family member) gets to read this and says "HI" to you.
Thank you for sharing!
